From Snuggles to Snapshots:
Getting Ready for Your Newborn Session

Bringing a newborn into the world is such a special time, and capturing those early days with a professional photo session is something you’ll treasure forever. If you’re preparing for a newborn shoot, here’s what you can expect and how to make the experience as smooth and stress-free as possible.

First, timing is everything. Newborn sessions are typically scheduled in the morning hours when babies tend to be sleepiest and most settled. A sleepy baby allows us to gently pose them and capture those peaceful, curled-up images everyone loves.

One of the best ways to ensure a calm, content baby is to feed them right before the session begins. A full tummy helps your little one stay sleepy and relaxed throughout the shoot. Don’t worry if your baby needs to eat again during the session—we always plan for plenty of breaks to allow for feeding, soothing, and cuddling.

To help your baby look their best, it’s a good idea to loosen diapers and avoid tight clothing about 2–3 hours before your session. This helps reduce any marks or lines on their delicate skin, which can show up in photos.

During the shoot, we’ll keep the environment very warm and cozy, often warmer than you might expect. A heater will be used to maintain a comfortable temperature, especially since babies are often photographed in wraps or without clothing. This warmth helps keep them sleepy and content.

Patience is key during a newborn session. These shoots are completely baby-led, which means we move at your little one’s pace. If they need to be held, fed, or comforted, we take the time to do so. There’s no rush! Capturing beautiful, natural moments is the priority.

Lastly, relax and enjoy the experience. You don’t need to worry about perfection, those tiny stretches, yawns, and even little expressions are all part of your baby’s unique story.

With a little preparation and a flexible mindset, your newborn session will be a calm, memorable experience resulting in timeless images you’ll cherish for years to come.
